Mrs Tink gets her High Tea on at Tanawha House

Everyone knows my favourite meal of the day is High Tea. Now, High Tea might not be an actual meal like breakfast or dinner but it should be! High Tea ticks all my boxes: sandwiches, quiche scones, macaroons, tea and the best part? They are all made into teeny, tiny pieces! Everything tastes better shrunk, add in some gorgeous teacups (don’t mind if I do) and tiered presentation (tiers are a must) and I feel every bit like Alice in Wonderland or Marie Antoinette. I take my High Tea so seriously I’m known amongst my friends as a ‘High Tea Guru’. I pride myself on knowing all the hot spots so when I discovered one had slipped past me I was astounded ‘how could this be?’ I thought. Not only had one slipped by me but it was right under my nose and only 10 minutes up the road, so I did what any self respecting High Tea Addict would do I grabbed my girls and off we went to get our High Tea on! Tanawha House Tea Room here we come!!

On arrival to Tanawha House I was instantly at ease, driving through the beautiful black metal gates into the car park and seeing the gorgeous green topare trees I could feel good things ahead and the setting was perfect.

Tanawha House Tea Room is located 10 minutes from my home on the Sunshine Coast although it has a feeling of being away somewhere secret and special and like a hidden garden the ones you read about in Enid Blyton books.

As we entered Tanawha House we were overwhelmed with gorgeous decor and beautiful furnishings. The theme inside was antiques mixed with shabby chic and a bit of contemporary. In every corner I looked I found something that lured me in from exquisite table settings to the original Disney Studio spotlights which left me breathless with the history behind them. I was in heaven!

Tea cups and tea sets as far as the eye could see and indulgent body products that really made me go weak at the knees. The girls and I, although hungry, were completely in a daze and we enjoyed looking at the pieces you would never find in regular stores.

Finally our tummies got the better of us and the reserved table started to scream our names as we were reminded why we were there – High Tea!

Now before I start about the menu I need to confess one of my favourite things about having High Tea is the table setting. The table setting for me sets the mood, and Tanawha House Tea Room did not disappoint it was filled with beautiful teacups, glasses, napkins and cutlery. I’m not always easy to please when it comes to expectations and I’ve eaten High Tea in some of the most beautiful places in the world but this really took the cake (pardon the pun) and took my breath away.
The girls and I took our seats and were greeted by a lovely lady who served us a fruity ice tea in our champagne glass which I was skeptical drinking as I’m not a fan of ice tea but it was light and very nice to drink. She then took our orders with hot tea and coffees and was back within seconds armed with tiers of mouthwatering mixes of sweet and savories, allow me to tempt you with our menu:

Petite Vanilla Cream Cupcake
French Macaron
•Scone with House Jam & Double Cream

Usually the biggest let down with High Tea even the fanciest of establishments are the sandwiches as they are usually a touch on the dry side. This was certainly not the case with Tanawha House Tea Room the bread was super fresh and the ingredients were delicious I could have eaten a tray to myself they were just so moreish. The quiches were also freshly made and filled with beautiful flavours and the artichoke and sundried tomato tart was pure heaven. The sweets did not disappoint with macaroons that were the best I’ve ever eaten and scones with jam that pleased this English girl to no end. The best part about our gorgeous spread was there was the right mix of everything, I finished feeling content and full but not sick and filled with too many sweets – the mix was perfect.

We were then greeted by the owner of Tanawha House, Beatrice, who talked us through the huge variety of teas Tanawha House Tea Room carried and allowed us to sample a variety of different teas an explained the story behind them. This was one of my favorite parts of our day as I’m a huge lover of tea and I found it fascinating how many different varieties there were. The range was astounding and I quickly started building a pile to bring home to enjoy.

Speaking of shopping not only did Tanawha House sell tea they also ticked off my other addiction with their wide range of teacups (squeal!) so many different designs and price points I was on cloud nine!

Looking at my watch I quickly realised our sneaky 1 hour lunch break had turned into a three hour break and it was time hit the road but not before I loaded up on all my new found faves. While I was paying for my finds I discovered more about Tanawha House and the design side which Beatrice works within. Beatrice has a wall lined with unique fabrics and niche design pieces that were unlike anything I’d seen before. I grabbed her card and made a mental note of all wishlist items and buzzed back to office filled with arms of treats and a head filled with ideas for when we build our dream home. All in all one fabulous day out in one of the Coast’s best kept secrets. I’m already planning my next outing back and at just $35 a head it’s affordable and something you can do with a group or just your bestie. Expect to see a lot more about Tanawha House in my newsfeed as it’s officially my new fave haunt.

I would love to go for high tea with Shirley Temple, Richard Branson and Steve Jobs. I would love to hear Richard and Steves stories of how they became so successful (and I’d love to see how they interact) and Shirley’s purely coming along because I love all of her movies and I think she’d enjoy high tea 🙂

I’d have to say, The Rock coz he’s a big film crush of mine but can you imagine how funny it would be seeing him holding a gorgeous tea cup lol .. Whitney Houston because she was just such a sensational singer and she may like to give me some pointers for karaoke and lastly Patrick Swayze, because like every other girl who’s ever watched dirty dancing, I’d love to be able to dance like that and he would be a great teacher.

I have popped in to Tanawah House before it commenced high teas and loved its ambiance and recently attended an Inspire evening event there for women – and absolutely fell in love with how elegant and welcoming it was. Now with high teas….it is high on my must to do list as high tea is a favourite activity for me to do with my elderly mum and friends. The celebrities I would invite are Elizabeth Taylor, George Clooney – now that would make an interesting couple and Mother Theresa – what an inspirational woman she was – and so much more than a celebrity!

This is a hard one!!!! There are SO many amazing people & celebrities that I would love to chat with over high tea whoI think would be so fascinating & insightful both dead & alive. But if I really must narrow it down to only 3 I would choose 1. Marilyn Monroe because she is such an icon and there are still so many mysteries about her life I would love to know more about. 2. Madonna because she has transformed herself through so many generations & changing times, challenged pop culture and still remains relevant & is still rocking today- amazing. 3. Donald Trump- but only if he’s open to tell the truth and nothing but the truth 😉 if not then my runner up is Angelina Jolie 🙂
