Mrs Tink visits the Sofitel Brisbane Central

I’m somewhat of a hotel snob, if I’m going to leave home and have a night away I want it to be a unique experience that feels luxurious and different. I’ve been very blessed over the years to stay in some of the most amazing hotels in Australia and overseas but I’ve also stayed in some doozies too.

Each time I book somewhere to stay I always do my research, I trawl the internet for pictures or reviews and checkout every aspect of the amenities the hotel has to offer. One hotel that I’ve lusted over for years is the Sofitel Brisbane Central. I’ve visited the Sofitel on many occasions for Business Chicks Conferences or business meetings and I have always found the facilities and food to be exceptional.

Recently Bec and I had a full day of filming to do in Brisbane and needed to book an overnight stay so the Sofitel was our immediate choice. Finally I was going to go beyond the conference centre and be able to explore the accommodation, restaurants and High Tea! (My fave meal of the day). The Sofitel Brisbane Central has a reputation for being extra fabulous so I knew their High Tea would be too. In the blink of an eye we were booked and the Sofitel was on our agenda.

After a busy morning of filming in Brisbane, Bec and I were tired and eager to get to our room at the Sofitel to change into some fresh clothes and start exploring. We parked out the front, leaving our car with the very friendly valet team, and made our way to reception to pick up our room key. From the second we arrived we felt like royalty as staff from every corner of the establishment greeted us with friendly bonjours, each one smiling and only too happy to help make our trip special. Once we arrived in our beautiful room we quickly unpacked to get dressed and decided that the shops were calling our names.

The Sofitel is located just minutes from the best shops in the world – you name it, the Queen Street Mall has it. We checked out the shops and did some minor credit card damage then headed back to our room to change for High Tea.

After putting on my new High Tea frock (thank you ASOS) we bounded up to the top floor, excited to feast on the High Tea we had heard so many people rave about. We took our seats and sipped on champagne (as you do on a Friday) while soaking up the birds eye view of the city and the people that fill it. Before we knew it, we were greeted by a beautiful waitress armed with a High Tea tier that took my breath away. Each item looked like a piece of art, carefully plated and ready to be eaten. I felt like Alice in Wonderland not knowing where to begin! Everything looked amazing. Sipping champagne and eating beautifully made ribbon sandwiches, I was in heaven and smiling from ear to ear like a Cheshire Cat. After indulging in savouries of ribbon sandwiches and freshly bakes scones, I moved on to the sweets with each one saying, “Pick me, pick me!”

I’m an English lass who loves her scones and these ones were made to perfection, fluffy and delicious. Each dessert was more decadent than the one before and the flavours were outstanding. The Sofitel really know how to do a fabulous High Tea with the right mix of sweet and savoury, and the tea, coffee and champagne were first class. I’m certainly not an easy gal to please with High Tea as I’ve enjoyed many in some of the most luxurious locations, but hands down I would have to say this experience was incredible.

After High Tea we decided to explore the hotel and take in our surroundings so we ventured to the rooftop pool area and quickly fell in love. It looked like a gorgeous secret garden perfect for an impromptu photoshoot for the blog. Feeling like the girls from Sex and the City, we giggled at how much fun we were having while only being an hour away from the Sunshine Coast. It felt like another world with the busy city streets and skyscrapers. There is something about the city that I love, the atmosphere is fast paced and exciting as everyone has somewhere to be with something happening everywhere you look.

We glanced at our watches and saw it was time for a caffeine fix so we headed downstairs to relax in the cafe. After our caffeine boost we returned to our room and changed for pre-dinner drinks on the club level.

With champagne in hand and beautiful appetisers to munch on, Bec and I chatted nonstop while enjoying the night lights of the city and unwinding from our day. It was the perfect start to dinner. The ambience and atmosphere in the club level is lovely and the amazing staff are only a footstep away, ready to attend to your every need.

After our drinks we went downstairs to check out the renowned restaurants and buffet. The selection for dining is great and the Sofitel have something for everyone. I’d been craving a steak all day so I couldn’t resist the steak and seafood option plus a small entree to share. My girlfriends have been raving about the Sofitel cocktails for years so I couldn’t wait to try the cocktail menu. Bec and I each ordered a margarita which went beautifully with our entrée and fresh bread, it was a fab way to get the night started.

Amid our chatter I suddenly saw out of the corner of my eye a sign that said ‘Wine Buffet’. Unsure that I was reading it correctly, I got up off my chair to read it again when I was greeted by our waitress who explained that the Sofitel did a Wine Buffet. My mind was blown… A Wine Buffet! I was giddy with excitement, what a fabulous idea. For $35.00 (for non members and if you are an Accor member, it is cheaper) you receive a selection of sparkling, white and red wines. They were beautiful quality wines from the finest wineries and perfect for pairing with each course. Not being one for wine pairing, I decided sparkling would be my tipple of the evening (no surprises there) and loved the novelty of being free to go up to the station and help myself. Bec and I were wowed by this fabulous concept and loved every second of it – other hotels take note, Wine Buffets are a fab idea.

Relishing in the Wine Buffet and the atmosphere, our meals were brought over. The steak and seafood were superb, cooked beautifully, and delicious from start to finish. The lovely waitress and waiter serving us delivered outstanding service and really made for a great evening.

After dinner we headed off to our room to shower, get our PJ’s on and jump into our snugly beds. The beds at the Sofitel are like marshmallows and make you feel like you’re floating on a luxurious cloud, within a few short minutes I was snoring (sorry Bec). I slept so well that I didn’t wake up until 8am, which as a mother of a 6 and 1 year old was an out of this world experience on its own.

After prying myself out of the super comfy bed, I took full advantage of the Nespresso machine in the room and started with an espresso then chased it down with a green tea. I plugged my laptop in and caught up on a little bit of work before getting dressed and heading down to breakfast.

The Sofitel Brisbane Central really does breakfast well as they have thought of everything, and I do mean everything. Anything you could possibly want for breakfast they have. Sweets, savouries, hot breakfast, cereals, yogurts, fruits, cheeses, cold meats, French pastries, and waffles. They even have a make your own juice bar filled with everything imaginable. The selection was unlike anything I’d ever experienced before, it was a breakfast wonderland.

We were filled to the brim with brekkie, bags packed, and our babies ready to see us at home. Our mini vacay was just what the doctor ordered and although it was brief we both got the opportunity to unwind, have fun and experience some much needed R&R.

The surroundings of the Sofitel are unlike any other hotel I have stayed in before. Perfect for holidays or business, it’s easy to see why so many people choose the Sofitel for a mini overnight vacay because it has everything you need that you really don’t have to leave. The Sofitel Brisbane Central team should be applauded for their service, each member of their team is warm, friendly and take the experience to the next level.
When our mini vacay was over, we checked out with the promise we would be back again and headed home to our hubby’s and kids, recharged and revitalised.

Would you like to come to the Sofitel Brisbane Central to enjoy a gorgeous Sparkling High Tea and the amazing surroundings and view? One lucky reader and a friend will be doing just that! Keep an eye out on Facebook tonight for the Vlog and for your opportunity to win!

Mum says that I am a Tom boy and have no manners and I want to take her High Tea to show her that I have manners. Love the Luxury of The Sofitel for the Food and Drink and Pampering. It would be nice to be treat like a Queen for a change and not hear complaints all day from family members.

I LOVE the SOFITEL and have been to the THYME 2 restaurant many times for anniversaries and other special events. My husband and I would love to win the HIGH TEA as they do make you feel special and we have created an amateur High Tea twice – once for our best friend who was dying with Breast Cancer and this was a wish on her Bucket List, and once for my Step Dad who was dying of Renal Failure and he wanted a bit of class before he passed away. With both Mother’s Day and my 21st wedding anniversary coming up within the next few weeks, it would be such a wonderful experience to win the HIGH TEA.
